May I keep those maydays forever?
May the blinding lights be dim?
Through the forest, down the river
Where wisdom is a measure of love
Could I ask another question?
Is it only what it seems?
And if it’s meant to be so painful
Then why in hell I feel relieved?
Is there beauty in every break-down
As I’m trying so desperately to preach?
Can you tell me is there any beauty
In the darkness you had to face and see?
Even if it was the very last thing, the very last thing
Is this where I also wanna be?
She said
I’ll take you where you belong
She said
I’ll be your mother
Your Universe
Could I ask the final question?
Is there something to believe in?
And if it’s meant to be so helpful
Then why the fuck I’m on my knees?
Is there beauty in every break-down
As I’m trying so desperately to preach?
Can you tell me is there any beauty
In the darkness you had to face and see?
Even if it was the very last thing, the very last thing
Is this where I also wanna be?

… this character, Proserpina, this goddess – she feels like such a strong archetype for me. It somehow represents cosmic beauty to me. That’s why, no matter how the goddess inspired me, I was afraid that whatever I create in the name of Proserpina would just be a pale shadow of this magnificent image.
Even though Proserpina transcended into the material world through art before (see the astonishingly beautiful work of Dante Gabriel Rossetti ‘Proserpina’), it made me be afraid even more – imposter syndrome is always there to “help” in such situations. But luckily, help had arrived from my long-time friend and collaborator Aleksandra Perova, who came up with the idea and produced the video with another wonderful friend of ours, Nastya Gapeeva, who expressed her vision of the song through dance.
Collaboration is the best medicine against the damned imposter syndrome, and this statement has proven itself right again completely, when I was suffering (no less!) in the process of finishing the album, and ‘Proserpina’ just didn’t work somehow. Again the friendly help arrived – Diego Ferri played his beautiful guitars, that finally created the atmosphere I had in mind.
And that’s what we’ve done!
Enjoy!
Love,
Gene
