spotify scam, part 2. xmas edition.

hey loves,

remember my recent rant about spotify and what’s so wrong about it?

well, little did I know, how much worse would it get in a blink of an eye

Here’s a full rundown of Spotify’s new royalties model:

  • Tracks that receive less than 1,000 streams within a 12-month period will not qualify for royalties. Those royalties, instead, will be redistributed into the greater royalty pool.
  • Labels and distributors will be charged 10 euros for any track that is found to have 90% or more of its streams deemed fraudulent.
  • Non-music noise tracks must now be at least two minutes long in order to qualify for royalties and each play will count for one-fifth of a music track’s stream, according to sources.

and so far this year i made €9.62

this means that even this laughable payment for my work will be taken from me. cause no, i don’t deserve payment in their opinion.

not only me, by the way. if we look globally, here’s what we see:

…in 2024 Spotify will stop paying anything at all for roughly two-thirds of tracks on the platform. That is any track receiving fewer than 1,000 streams over the period of a year. Tracks falling under this arbitrary minimum will continue to accrue royalties – but those royalties will now be redirected upwards, often to bigger artists, rather than to their own rights holders.

love,

This pyramid scheme shows, that everything below the blue sector will be used by Spotify for free, i.e. they don’t pay royalties for those streams.
