on the 22nd of april gene will take part in the panel discussion “queer lives in transit” at taz lab 2023
“Domestic and sexual violence, religious punishments, and police harassment are some of the common reasons LGBTQ refugees flee their countries and come to Germany from around the world. But the experience of seeking asylum and assimilating into German society can be uniquely challenging. This panel discussion is dedicated to the various hardships faced by queer refugees upon arrival in Germany. How do you find housing in an already cluttered market in Berlin? Do you feel truly safe among the other migrants from your country? How does the legal title of being a ‘refugee’ affect your chances to find a job? How do you navigate racism?”
