FATE’S LITTLE DANCE

This one is all about irony.

In the summer 2016 we were invited to play a show at Alexandrinsky Theater in St. Petersburg (New Stage). For those who don’t know – The Alexandrinsky Theater (Russian State Pushkin Academy Drama Theater) is one of the oldest theater stages in St. Petersburg, it was opened in 1832.

We were of course completely excited about this offer and decided to make this show something really special. Spoiler – haha, we managed. We have chosen 17 songs to be played as a two-part show, with the first part consisting mainly of the new and experimental material and the second part being more about the songs that our audience knew already. And, to make it all unforgettable, we decided to make the playback videos for each song. As in – @AleksandraPerova was shooting videos for every song, then it was edited and synced with our live playback. For all this work we had about a month’s time.

We were rehearsing, shooting, rehearsing again for a month, but as you can imagine deadlines always fly by with this specially disgusting whooshing sound and we found ourselves still working on this endless amount of things two days before the show. It was like working in a war zone with something exploding now and then, people losing their mind in the process, no sleeping and no time for elementary self care.

On the day of the show, two days without sleep, we felt like – here we are, we’re ready. And it all would be completely fine if not one thing – I was so physically and emotionally exhausted, that I could barely stand on my feet. I tried to keep myself going with some prosecco fuel, but it didn’t really help, obviously.

I won’t describe what happened next in detail, but I have completely lost the sense of reality at some point of the show and stopped it after playing 8 or 9 songs. I had to go back to the dressing room where I finally fainted. I was told to play at least one more song and we did, with a great support of my band, but after that – oblivion.

Two days later I am in bed with fever, reading messages from worried friends and fans, and I received some horrible feedback from the theater (understandable – the artist was drunk and out of his mind).

This is when I wrote “Fate’s Little Dance”, analyzing this failure – that was the show that I was anticipating for such a long time, and it turned out to be a complete disaster. What else could I do? I had to be ironic about it. In the end, I perceive this experience as positive – now I know, that I shouldn’t take things too seriously sometimes, and I know that whatever you plan – fate has some input too.

FATE’S LITTLE DANCE

GOT ME STOMPED DOWN TO THE GROUND

AND ALL MY FEARS STOOD TALL

FATE’S LITTLE DANCE

GOT ME CLOSER TO MY DREAMS

BUT I FORGOT

THE WORK WAS LEFT TO ME

FATE’S LITTLE SMILE

CONFUSED THE CHILD IN ME

NOW IT’S LEFT CRYING

SO DEEP THAT I CAN’T HEAR

FATE’S LITTLE SMILE

TURNED MY LIFE INTO A JOKE

I THOUGHT THE WORLD WOULD LAUGH AT LEAST

BUT IT SEEMS THEY GOT IT WRONG

AND IF I RAN

IT ALL CAME CHASING ME

TIED TO MY ANKLE

LIKE BALL AND CHAIN

AND IF I CHEERED

IT ALL CAME CRASHING DOWN

RIGHT DOWN MY HEAD

MAKING THAT DISGUSTING SOUND

And here’s a special THING for you.

“Sick Trends” – a song that I wrote at the same time with Fate’s Little Dance. Enjoy!
